So, you and your loved ones have arrived in Park City and you have booked a winter photo session with Blinnk Photography? But, there is one question that remains: what should you wear for the photo shoot with your professional photographer in Utah?

Don’t panic. We have compiled a list of suggestions from our experience with clients:

Overall Style

Think casual – you are in the mountains. It is important to choose an outfit you are comfortable in, and during a snowy day in Park City that also means it is important to pick an outfit you are warm in! Layers are essential; they prevent you from looking bulky and you won’t be smiling through chattering teeth! If you are the more glamorous type, then go for it! The contrast of high fashion and nature can be visually stunning – just remember, the best photos are when our models are enjoying themselves, not cold or uncomfortable!

Women: For the indoor shots, pants and tops or dresses are great – as long as you have leggings or tights under the dress! Bring a warm jacket, gloves, and even a hat for the outdoor portion of your winter photo session.

Men: We suggest solid-colored bottoms and a button-down for the inside shots, with a warm jacket and gloves for outside.

How much matching is too much matching?

Groups often want to coordinate but you don’t want to end up looking too matchy-matchy. We suggest wearing neutral bottoms and playing around with the styles or colors of tops. You could also pick a scheme of a few different colors or wear different hues of one single color. Colors

Consider what will look best with the background, which is mostly grey and white from the snow and clouds. Simple colors and patterns look great with a snowy backdrop but if you are looking for pictures that pop, you can never go wrong with brightly colored ski jackets.

It is important to consider what color palette will make sense for your family. What do you wear on a daily basis? Pastels? Bright colors? For an effortlessly cool look we suggest beiges and neutrals. It is usually a good idea to stay away from blacks or whites, as they aren’t the best option when the sun is too bright!

Solid colors work best – no crazy patterns, please!

Footwear

Wear the warmest, most comfortable pair of shoes you own. No one will be judging you from your footwear and you’ll look much happier if you’re warm! If you are totally against being photographed in some heavy-duty snow boots, we suggest thick ski socks and some toe-warmers!

Accessories

Keep accessories to a minimum. If you’re newly engaged, the only accessory you should be rocking is… your new rock!

If you want to bring your ski goggles, do it! Goggles can be used as props and also serve as a reminder of that great powder day that you had – but please no sunglasses! Beanies, scarves, vests, and gloves are welcome as well! Definite Don’ts!

No clothing with logos or text
No busy prints
No running shoes
Don’t go out and purchase a whole new wardrobe, wear your go-to outfits because you know they are comfortable, well-fitting, and have stood the test of time

Whatever you go with, make sure it represents you. If you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing, it will come across in the images.

Happy styling!
